Eugene police are reporting an increase in burglaries at food carts and coffee stands over the past month and are asking for assistance in reporting the thefts.
About 15 carts and racks have been stolen since early October, with someone mainly taking the cash registers, according to Sgt. Wayne Dorman.
“It’s pretty clear that we have a series going on and someone is specifically targeting these companies,” he said.
Dorman said police ask food carts to try to minimize the amount of cash on site, particularly at night and if it’s in a hard-to-secure location.
The burglaries did not take place in one specific location, but rather across the city, Dorman said. This includes along North Coburg Road, west of Eugene and downtown.
One concern is that some businesses don’t report burglaries when they happen, he said, and police hope businesses can call about it more regularly.
“It really helps if we can get notified of these burglaries as soon as possible,” he said. “One of the things we do is look for other videos in the area, so even if your business doesn’t have a video, we’ll look for videos around it that might be helpful.”

In addition to cash, digital tablets have been stolen in some places for transactions, and Dorman said it’s frustrating that companies that distribute tablets such as DoorDash aren’t helping police with the GPS location of where the device is located.
“A bit of a frustration for us is that when we go to them for help, we’ve seen that with other big companies, they really don’t cooperate or help our investigation,” he said. -he declares.
Police are also asking members of the public to watch and report any suspicious activity around food carts, trucks or coffee stands to call 911 to report it.
