Giant shoe stolen from ‘Cartlandia’ food cart on Thanksgiving | Local News

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A landmark that once served as entertainment for children in the superfood cart pod, Cartlandia, has been stolen.

If you’re a foodie in Cartlandia, you might remember seeing a human-sized neon-colored shoe that was fitted with a basketball hoop that kids could play ball with.

Cartlandia has been home to the giant luminary for 10 years until a group of people tried twice in a row to steal it and succeeded

On Thanksgiving morning at 4:00 a.m., surveillance video from the second attempt shows three people entering space with a flatbed dolly in tow, after several attempts they lifted the object onto the dolly and lifted off.

Brett Pitner, with Cartlandia’s interview, tells FOX 12 the suspects walked through the fence that borders the Springwater Corridor trail to enter the space and broke the locks on the back door to exit.

Pitner says that same day, a Craigslist ad was posted saying the shoe had appeared on someone’s lawn half a mile up the road, asking anyone to pick it up for free. Before Cartlandia staff could claim the item, an unknown person beat them to the fist.

FOX 12 spoke with Cookie McCakeFace food cart owner Sarah Ahlvers, who was confused by the incident.

“Who would steal what he is going to do with it? I couldn’t think of anyone picking it up for reuse, but it’s really big and heavy and it’s really obvious, so where is it going? Ahlvers asked.

Pitner says he hopes this shoe will make an appearance: “I imagine it’s a pretty distinctive standout, but I can’t live underground forever. There’s obviously some not so good people there but there’s a lot of decent people, I’d like to think someone will find him and he’ll come back to us”

A police report has been filed with the Portland Police Department, but its whereabouts and who stole it in the first place are unknown.
