The team that launched Dozzino over a decade ago have found their way to the east side of Hoboken and brought a new fusion restaurant to a storefront just off the greenery of Church Square Park.
The Number Eleven grocery store opened yesterday at 342 Garden Street inside the space that once housed the late-night spot 7 Stars Pizzeria. This business closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic and a renovation has been quietly going on at the property for several months.
The restaurant comes from the team that opened the pizza-centric Dozzino in Hoboken on Adams Street in 2010.
Number Eleven Food Store had refined its pop-up dishes at various times and is now serving customers in its own digs. The counter-style restaurant, which has limited seating, has a decidedly Asian flair and serves what they call “good food that looks Chinese.”
The Number Eleven Food Store’s debut menu includes their spin on Drunken Noodles with shrimp, egg, bacon, cilantro and chili peppers, while a Smoked Beef Chow Fun includes smoked brisket and flat rice noodles . Not Your Mama’s Wonton Soup features both shrimp and pork wontons and ramen noodles swimming in chicken and dashi broth.
The Italian influences of the group’s former restaurants still shine through a bit with concoctions like a pepperoni fried rice and a Tony Tony noodle dish, made with lamb, mala sauce and sesame paste.
