West Village Food Cart named one of the best vegan spots in town

WEST VILLAGE, NY – It’s not easy to be named one of New York’s best restaurants for any cuisine, let alone if you don’t have actual indoor space, but that’s exactly what that a popular West Village food cart just accomplished.

NY Dosas, an Indian food cart usually parked near Washington Square Park, was named by Eater NY as one of 19 best vegan and vegetarian spots At New York.

Here’s what the editors of the food news and rankings website had to say about it:

“This street vendor in Washington Square usually has a long line of eager, hungry customers,” Eater NY wrote. “For good reason: the Indian food truck specializing in all things crispy dosas is one of the most affordable (and portable) vegan options in town – perfect for socially distanced park picnics.”

The Dosas food cart is almost always parked at 50 Washington Square South. His usual hours are Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The West Village food cart also won a Vendy Award for “Best Street Food” in New York City.

Its menu includes Masala Dosa, Singapore Noodles, Samosa and a Vegan Drumstick. All dishes are vegan and gluten-free.

Thiru Kumar runs the food cart and has been doing it in Washington Square Park since 2001. His famous dosas are made from fermented rice and lentils before being stuffed with potatoes, vegetables and spicy sauces.

Kumar is from Sri Lanka.
